District Attorney Daniella Shorter-Levy announced the conviction of Tamekio Bailey for the misdemeanor crime of Simple Assault.
Barnes was sentenced by Judge Tomika H. Irving to (6) six months to serve and (6) six months suspended. Also, she was ordered to pay restitution to the victim, Shanaque Sanders, in the amount of $2,000.00, court costs of $268.75, a $150.00 investigative fee to the District Attorney’s Office, and $100.00 to the Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund.
On June 10, 2023, Bailey was charged with Simple Assault by the Hazlehurst Police Department when Shanaque Sanders pressed charges on Bailey because Bailey had hit Sanders in the face and caused a cut to form over her eye which required stitches. The Hazlehurst Police Department investigated this matter promptly and through their investigation of this matter it was learned that this incident occurred within the city limits of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Therefore, Bailey pled guilty to the charge of Simple Assault.
