EARNEST BARNES PRESS RELEASE

District Attorney Daniella Shorter-Levy announced the conviction of Ernest Barnes for the misdemeanor crime of Failure to Obey a Law Enforcement Officer.


Barnes was sentenced by Judge Tomika H. Irving to (6) six months to serve and (6) six months suspended. Also, he was ordered to pay $268.75 for court costs and a $150.00 investigative fee to the District Attorney's Office.


On October 20, 2023, Barnes was arrested in Copiah County by the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office when a Deputy ordered him to stop burning trash during a countywide burn ban and he refused to comply with the commands of the law enforcement officer. Therefore, Barnes pled guilty to the charge of Failure to Obey a Law Enforcement Officer.
