District Attorney Daniella M. Shorter announced the conviction of Clayde Watson on one (1) count of possession of a stolen firearm.
On May 6, 2024, Clayde Watson appeared in Claiborne County Circuit Court and pled guilty to a matter consisting of the crime of possession of a stolen firearm. Circuit Judge Tomika H. Irving sentenced Watson to three (3) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with three (3) yearssuspended and two (2) years of supervised probation. Watson was also ordered to pay $150 to the District Attorney’s Office for the D.A. Investigation fee and $427.50 in court costs to the county.
Should this case have gone to trial, the prosecution would have shown that on October 8, 2021, Watson was being questioned about a shooting that occurred in Claiborne County while he was at a convenience store in Port Gibson, Mississippi. At that time, the Deputy questioning him saw a weapon in Watson’s vehicle in plain sight on his passenger’s seat. During the investigation of this matter, it was determined that the handgun in Watson’s possession was a stolen firearm. Watson was then arrested and charged with this crime and transported to the Claiborne County Jail.
